About Tangent Circle Formula
A tangent of a circle is a straight line which only touches the circle at one point. A tangent never penetrates the interior of the circle.
The tangent has 2 important properties:
- A tangent touches a circle at exactly one point on it.
- The tangent touches the circle’s radius at a right angle.
Tangent is a line & to write the equation of a line we need 2 things:
- Slope (m)
- A point online
Equation of a tangent to a circle:
- Tangent to a circle equation x2 + y2 = a2 for a line y = mx +c is given by the equation y = MX ± a √[1+ m2].
- Tangent to a circle equation x2+ y2 = a2 at (a1,b1)a1,b1) is xa1a1+yb1b1= a2 Thus, equation of tangent can be given as xa1+yb1 = a2, where (a1,b1)a1,b1) are the coordinates from which the tangent is made. Check out the List of Maths Formulas.
