About Hexagon Formula
Hexagons are polygons which have six sides. Regular hexagons, irregular hexagons, & concave hexagons are the 3 types of hexagons. A hexagon is considered a regular hexagon if all of its sides are equal and the angles are the same. A hexagon has nine diagonals in total. A normal hexagon's internal angles add up to 720 degrees. Every inner angle is also 120 degrees. The outside angle of a regular hexagon is 60 degrees, and the sum of all exterior angles is 360 degrees. The area and perimeter are calculated using the hexagon formula.
What Is Hexagon Formula?
The hexagon formula is a set of formulas for calculating the hexagon's perimeter, area, and diagonals. Regular hexagons are immediately applicable to the hexagon formulae.
- Area of Hexagon = 3√3s2/2
- Perimeter of Hexagon = 6s
- Where, s = side length
Hexagon Formula
The hexagon formula can be written as:
- Area of hexagon: (3√3s2)/2
- Where,
- s = side length
Perimeter of hexagon: 6s
where,
- s = side length
Diagonals of a hexagon: 2s and √3s
where,
- s = side length
Special Formula: Area = 1/2 × perimeter × apothem
Derivation of Hexagon Formula
Regular hexagon of side s. Then, Area of a hexagon
- Divide the hexagon into small 6 isosceles triangles.
- Get area of 1 of the triangles.
- Multiply by 6.
- Thus, (3√3s2)/2
The perimeter of a hexagon
- The perimeter of any polygon is sum of all the side lengths.
- A regular hexagon has 6 sides. Thus, multiply the side length by 6.
- Thus, the formula for the perimeter of a regular hexagon - P = 6 × a
Diagonal of a hexagon
- Hexagon has 6(6-3)/2 = 9 diagonals.
- These 9 diagonals form into 6 equilateral triangles.
- For longer diagonal, d = 2s, & for shorter diagonal, d = √3s, where s refers to side of the hexagon.
- Thus, the formula for the diagonal of a hexagon is given as, d = 2s, and √3s
