Mean Median Mode Formula

About Mean Median Mode Formula

The mean median mode formula gives us the central tendency measures.

What do you mean by Mean Median Mode Formula?

The arithmetic mean of the data is also known as the mean. If the data is grouped and arranged in ascending order, the median is the middlemost value of the given grouped data. The most common value in the data is called mode.

Mean = sum of observation / total number of observations

  1. If n is odd: Median = [(n+1)/2]th term
  2. If n is even: Median = {(n/2)th term + [(n+1)/2]th term}/2
  3. Mode = L + h [(fm –f1)/{(fm –f1)+(fm –f2)}]

Mean Formula

Sum of observations divided by total number of observations is the mean formula. This will aid in the resolution of the vast majority of arithmetic mean-related problems. The mean formula for given observations is as follows:

Mean Formula = (Sum of Observations) ÷ (Total Numbers of Observations)

For grouped data, we also have a mean formula. Which is written as:

x? = Σfx/N

Here,x is mean value of set of given data, f is frequency of individual data

N is sum of frequencies

Hence, average of all data points is termed as mean.

Median Formula

For finding the median we need to arrange the data either in ascending order or descending order. Now after arranging the data, get the total number of observations in the data. If the number is odd, the median is (n+1)/2. If the number is even, find the two middle terms using the formula n/2 and (n/2) + 1. Find the mean of these 2 middle terms. Thus the median formula for even

numbers is given as: Median = ((n/2)th term + ((n/2) + 1)th term)/2

Similarly, we have median formula for grouped data. The median formula for grouped data is given as,

Median = Lm+[{(n/2)−F}/fm]i

  1. Here,
  2. n = Total frequency
  3. F = Cumulative frequency of class before the median class
  4. fm = Frequency of the class median
  5. i = Class width
  6. Lm = Lower boundary of the class median

Mode Formula

A Mode is a value or a number that appears most frequently in a data set. We find the mode value for the collection of given data when we need to find the most frequently occurring value. There is no mode for data that contains no recurring values. The mode value is determined by the dataset. The following mode formula is used to find the mode for grouped data.

Mode formula = L + h {(fm−f1)/[(fm−f1)+(fm−f2)]}

Here,

  1. 'L' is lower limit of modal class.
  2. 'h' is size of class interval.
  3. 'fm' is frequency of modal class.
  4. 'f1' is frequency of class preceding the modal class.
  5. 'f2' is frequency of class succeeding the modal class.
