Median is middle value of a set of data when put in order in statistics. Ascending or descending order of data or observations is possible.

Example: The median of 2,3,4 is 3.

The median is a sort of average used to locate the centre value in mathematics. As a result, it's also known as the measure of central tendency.

The mean and mode are other two central trends, in addition to median. The mean is the ratio of the total number of observations to the sum of all observations. The value in the data set that is most frequently repeated is called mode.

A median is also known as the central point of a polygon in geometry. The median of a triangle, for example, is the line segment from the triangle's verte

x to the centre of the opposite sides. As a result, the triangle's sides are bisected by a median.

Median in Statistics

The middle number or centre value in a set of data is called median. The midpoint of set is also known as the median.

To calculate the median, rank the data from least to greatest or greatest to least value first. A median is a number that separates the upper and lower halves of a data sample, population, or probability distribution. The median varies depending on the type of distribution.

Example:3, 3, 5, 9, 11 has a median of 5. When there are an even number of observations, the median is commonly defined as the average of the two middle values: for example, the median of 3, 5, 7, 9 is (5+7)/2 = 6.

Formula for Median

Here is the formula for calculating the median of a finite number of data sets. For even and odd numbers of observations, the median formula is different. As a result, we must first determine if we have an odd or even number of values in a given data set.

The formula for calculating the data set's median is as follows.

An Unusual Number of Observations

If total number of observations is odd, median is calculated using the formula: Median = (n+1)/2thterm, where n is the number of observations.

Observations are evenly distributed.

Median formula: Median = [(n/2)th term + {(n/2)+1}th]/2 where n is the number of observations, If total number of observations is EVEN.
