Introduction to Chapter 9 – The Making of the National Movement: 1870s–1947
The chapter links the main phases of the freedom struggle that begin a little before the formation of Congress to the transfer of power to India. It outlines the different struggles that were launched to bring down the British to death. The emergence of nationalism and the growth of mass nationalism is discussed in the chapter. Along with that the advent of Mahatma Gandhi and the satyagraha done by him such as Champaran Satyagraha, Kheda Satyagraha and the Ahmedabad mill strike were discussed in the chapter. Later on, the happening of 1922-29 was also talked about in the chapter. The Dandi March and the movements like the Quit India movements are further discussed at the end of the chapter.
