Introduction to Chapter 8 – Women, Caste and Reform
Women since ancient times had not enjoyed a very rich social status in the country and globally. The coming of the British however brought some respite to the women as they got rid of some of the inhuman evils like satin and child marriage. Also, they got the opportunity to learn. Apart from the British, there emerged several Indian leaders who advocated for the social freedom of women. The chapter throws light on the same.
