Brief introduction of Chapter 3 Plant Kingdom

Theophrastus is known as the father of Botany.

In the chapter on biological classification, we have gone through a summary of the plant kingdom.

This chapter opens with some sort of classification methods such as artificial classification, natural classification, numerical taxonomy, chemotaxonomy etc. In this chapter of the first unit, we are going to study the plant kingdom in detail. we will be studying different divisions of the plant kingdom starting from the simplest form of plant Algae followed by the division Bryophyta, Pteridophytes,  Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

This chapter will give you an insight into the structure, habitat, reproduction, and economic importance of the different forms of plants.

There is two form of plant body called gametophytic plant body and sporophytic plant body due to which plant shows alternation of generation. In algae, the zygote represents a sporophytic generation.

Pteridophytes are regarded as the first Vascular plants having a saprophytic plant body as the main body.

Angiosperms are the only flowering plant which is divided into two major classes dicot and monocot, Monocot being the most advanced plant on earth discovered so far.

The life cycle of plants can be Haplontic, Haplodiplontic and Diplontic
