What will you learn in Chapter 12 Introduction to Three-Dimensional Geometry?
In earlier classes, we have studied the 2D co-ordinate geometry, Cartesian Plane where the two numbers in ordered pair represent the coordinates of a point in the plane. However, in real life, we do not have to deal with points lying in a plane only. For example, consider the position of a ball thrown in space at different points of time or the position of an Aeroplan as it flies from one place to another at different times during its flight.
So, to locate a point in space we need to introduce one more axis, converting 2D geometry into 3D geometry. The three numbers in the ordered triplet will represent the coordinates of a point in space.
So, the 3D geometry will be introduced in this chapter and the detailed study will be done in class XII. The topics covered in this chapter will be:
1. Coordinate Axes and Coordinate Planes in Three-Dimensional Space
2. Coordinates of a Point in Space with signs in different Octants
3. Distance between two points
4. Section Formula (Internal and External division both)
5. Mid-point theorem and the coordinates of Centroid of a triangle in space.
