A systematic study of geometry by the use of algebra is coordinate Geometry. The resulting combination of analysis and geometry is referred to as analytical geometry. In earlier classes along with the introduction of the Cartesian Plane, we have studied the distance between two points, section formulae and the area of a triangle.
In this chapter, we will be studying all about straight lines and its equation in different forms. The main focus will be on :
1. Inclination and slope of a line.
2. Conditions for parallelism and perpendicular lines in terms of slopes of two straight lines.
3. The angle between two lines.
4. Collinearity of three points.
5. Various forms of the equation of straight lines like Horizontal and Vertical lines, Point-slope form, Two-point form, Slope-intercept form, Double Intercept form and Normal form.
6. General equation of the line and finding the intercepts and slope from the general equation of the line.
7. Conversion of the general equation into a different form of straight lines.
8. Distance of a point from a line measuring parallel to another line and perpendicular distance.
9. Distance between two parallel lines.
