Explanation: Let us understand the unitary method with the help of one example.
Let the cost of 5 pens is Rs 60.
So, the cost of one such pen is Rs. 12.
Therefore, the cost of 2 such pens = Rs 24.
Question-3.The total marks obtained by Sumit in Maths and Science are 170. If the difference between the marks in these two subjects is 10, then the ratio between the marks in Maths and science is
(a) 9: 8.
(b) 7 : 8.
(c) 7 : 6.

Explanation:
Let the marks obtained in Math and science be M S respectively.
So, M + S = 170 and M – S = 10
Thus M = 90 and S = 80
Therefore, the required ratio = 9: 8
Question-4. Margarette works in a factory and earns Rs 955 per month. She saves Rs 185 per month from her earnings. Find the ratio of her income to her expenditure.
(a) 154 : 37 (b) 191 : 37
(c) 191 : 154 (d) 37 : 191
Answer-(c) Margarette earns = Rs 955
Her saving = Rs 185
Her expenditure = 955-185 = Rs 770
Income : expenditure = 955 : 770
Question-5 Avinash works as a lecturer and earns Rs 12000 per month. His wife who is a doctor earns Rs 15000 per month. Find the ratio of Avinash’s income to their total income.
(a) 4 : 9 (b) 9 : 4
(c) 4 : 5 (d) 5 : 4
Answer-(a)Avinash earns = Rs 12000
His wife earns = 15000
Total income = 12000 + 15000 = Rs 27000
Avinash income : total income = 12000 : 27000 = 4:9
