The ethnic differences in Belgium and Sri Lanka have been interestingly presented in the chapter, thereby, highlighting the approach of the national leaders of the two countries and the consequences that it brought. The chapter also discusses the overlapping and cross-cutting social differences that were prevalent in Sri Lanka and Belgium. In Sri Lanka, the Sinhala community overlapped the Tamils while the differences in Belgium settled due to the existence of both Dutch and French populations with almost equal strengths in different regions, thereby cross-cancelling the social differences. The chapter discusses the majoritarianism model of Sri Lanka and the Accommodation model of Belgium and the existence of a communist government in Belgium.
