UPSC 2024 Eligibility Criteria
Before starting your UPSC 2024 Civil Services preparation, it’s essential to understand the eligibility criteria, as this is the first step for anyone wanting to take the Civil Services Examination and serve as an administrator in the country.
Here are the eligibility criteria for the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024:

Nationality: The candidate must be:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and others, intending to settle permanently in India.

Educational Qualification: The candidate needs to have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. If you are in the final year of your degree, you can apply, but you must show proof of passing before a given date.

Number of Attempts: The number of times you can attempt the exam depends on your category:
- General Category: 6 attempts
- OBC Category: 9 attempts
- SC/ST Category: Unlimited attempts until the upper age limit (not counting those in special relaxation categories)

Physical Fitness: To qualify for specific services like the Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS), candidates must meet certain physical and medical standards.

Educational Criteria for UPSC 2024 Exam
- Minimum Qualification for IAS: To be eligible for the IAS exam, you must have a degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
- Eligibility for Final Year Students: If you're in your final year of graduation or waiting for your results, you can still take the UPSC Prelims Exam. But, you must have passed your final year exams before applying for the UPSC 2024 Mains Exam.
- Eligibility for Professional and Technical Qualifications: If you hold a professional or technical qualification that the Government considers equivalent to a degree, you can also apply for the UPSC 2024 Exam.
- Eligibility for Medical Students: Medical students who have passed their final year of MBBS but haven't completed their internship can apply for the IAS Exam. However, they must provide a course completion certificate from the relevant authority when applying for the Mains Exam.
