Introduction to Chapter 7 The p-Block Elements
The elements in which the last electron filled in the p subshell are known as p block elements. This chapter deals with -
1. General trends in the chemistry of elements of groups 5, 16, 17 and 18.
2. Preparations, properties and uses of elements of each group like in group 15 important compounds, nitrogen oxide, ammonia, nitric acid, allotropes of phosphorus white, red and black phosphorus.
3. Group 16 elements and their general trends in size, electronegativity, ionisation potential, and electron affinity. The important compound of group 16 elements such as SO2, H2SO4, and oxoacids of Sulphur.
4. Group 17 elements their general properties and compounds of their element like chlorine, oxoacids of halogens their preparation, properties and uses.
5. Group 18 elements their general properties, chemical properties and compounds of xenon with their uses.
