Introduction to Chapter 8 The d & f Block Elements
The d and f block elements are those elements in which the last electron filled in the valence d and f orbital. The block includes groups 3-12 in which the d orbitals are progressively filled in each of the four long periods.
The chapter deals with:
1. Position of elements of d and f block of elements in the periodic table.
2. A general property of elements of the elements.
3. Preparation, property and uses of important compounds of d block elements like potassium dichromate, potassium permanganate etc.
4. Understanding the properties of f block elements and giving a comparative account of the lanthanides concerning their electronic configuration, oxidation state and chemical behaviour.
