Brief introduction of Chapter 3 Drainage
Rivers are the source of life for many organisms. Rivers in India also hold a sacred significance as the Ganges finds their origin in Indian Mythology too. The river system is broadly divided into two parts which are the Himalayan river system which consists of rivers like the Indus river, the Ganga and the Brahmaputra river system and the Peninsular rivers such as the Krishna, the Godavari and the Kaveri. The Godavari is the longest amongst the Peninsular rivers and is also known as the Dakshin Ganga. The longes river that flows completely through India is the Ganges, The chapter discusses the drainage basins form by the different river systems. It also discusses freshwater lakes and inland navigation.
