Ans. – Yes, we used natural resources forever since natural resources are in unlimited quantity, but some resources are in limited quantity.

Q. 3 – What are the inexhaustible natural resources?

Ans. – These resources are present in unlimited quantity in nature and are not likely to be exhausted by human activities. Examples are sunlight and air.

Q. 4 – What are the exhaustible natural resources?

 Ans. – The amount of these resources in nature is limited. They can be exhausted by human activities. Examples are coal, petroleum, and natural gas.

Q. 5 – What are fossil fuels? 

Ans. – Those fuels obtained from the dead remains of living organisms are all known as fossil fuels.

Q. 6 – How dead plants are converted into coal?

Ans. – Under high pressure and high temperature, dead plants got slowly converted into coal.

Q. 7 – Explain the term carbonisation? 

Ans. – The slow process of conversion of dead vegetation into coal is called carbonisation.

Q. 8 – What is the bitumen?

Ans. – Bitumen is a petroleum product. These days, bitumen is used in place of coal tar for metalling the roads.

Q. 9 – How can we obtain coal gas? 

Ans. – Coal gas is obtained during the processing of coal to get a coke. It is used as a fuel in many industries situated near coal processing plants. 

Q. 10 – Do you know how petroleum is formed?

Ans. – Petroleum was formed from organisms living in the sea. As these organisms died, their bodies settled at the bottom of the sea and got covered with layers of sand and clay. Over millions of years, the absence of air, high temperature and high pressure transformed these dead organisms into petroleum.

Q. 11 – Define the term coal tar.

Ans. – Coal tar is a black, thick liquid with an unpleasant smell. It is a mixture of about 200 substances.

Q. 12. – Explain the term petroleum refinery.

Ans. – The process of separating the various impurities of petroleum is known as refining. It is carried out in a petroleum refinery.

Q. 13 – Can coal, petroleum and natural gas be prepared in the laboratory from dead organisms? 

Ans. – No, This is a very slow process and conditions for their formation cannot be created in the laboratory.

Q. 14 – Give tips to people on how to save petrol/diesel while they driving.

Ans. – Tips are:

1. Drive at a constant and moderate speed as far as possible.

2. Switch off the engine at traffic lights or at a place where you have to wait.

3. Ensure correct tyre pressure, and

4. Ensure regular maintenance of the vehicle.

Q. 15 – What are the merits of using LPG and CNG as fuels?

Ans. – LPG and CNG have more advantages when we use them as fuels.

1. It is easy to transport through the pipes. 

2. The most advantage of gas is that it can be used directly for burning.

3. It is a clean fuel.

4. It is less polluted.
