There are three levels of Panchayats:
The Gram Panchayat, or village level, is the first level of the democratic government.
The Block level, also known as the Janpad Panchayat or Panchayat Samiti, is the second level.
The District Panchayat, also known as the Zila Parishad for the district level, sits above the Panchayat Samiti.
