Which type of metal is used in cathodic protection of iron against rusting ?

Inorder to prevent the corrosion of Iron, cathodic protection is performed. In this method a cathode is made for the electrochemical cell to resist rusting.
In this method, metals which are more electropositive than Iron are selected as cathode from the electrochemical series.
Examples for such metals are Zinc, Aluminium, Magnesium etc.

Final answer: Metals of higher electropositive character than Iron like Zinc, Aluminium, Magnesium etc are used.
