In C3 plants, photosynthesis involves the Calvin cycle, which happens in mesophyll cells. The first step in this cycle is carboxylation, where CO2 is turned into a stable organic substance. An enzyme called RuBisCO helps with this process. CO2 is used to carboxylate RUBP, and then RuBisCO changes it into 3-phosphoglyceric acid.
