The French Revolution was one of the greatest events in European history with far-reaching consequences. It lasted for a period of ten years from 1789.
French society was divided into three classes, namely clergy, aristocrats and commoners.
The first two classes lived in luxury and were not subject to taxes. Furthermore, the common people had to bear all the taxes.
Even the wealthy middle class fell victim to it. They did not have any political rights.
The King of France, Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette drained the French coffers by their comfortable and lavish lifestyles.
The French Revolution was mainly aimed at overthrowing the absolute monarchy in France and bringing about social equality in society.
