What is Zener diode?

A Zener diode is a specialized type of semiconductor diode that is designed to operate in the reverse breakdown region of its voltage-current characteristic curve. Unlike regular diodes, which are designed to operate in the forward bias, the Zener diode is specifically engineered to conduct current in the reverse bias or breakdown region when a certain voltage, known as the Zener voltage, is reached.
