What are the physical features of India? Explain in points.

ii)  The Himalayas: They’re very tall mountains in the northern, northeastern, and western parts of India. They’re split into three smaller regions: the Shivaliks, the Himachal range, and the Himadri range.

ii) The Northern Indian Plains: These are huge flat areas made of fertile soil. They’re divided into the Ganga plains, Punjab plains, and Brahmaputra plains.

iii) The Great Indian Desert: It’s in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Thar Desert is the largest here, with sandy land and very little rain, less than 150 mm a year.

iv) The Peninsular Plateau: It’s made of the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau, some of the oldest land in the country. The Western Ghats are part of the Deccan plateau, and the Eastern Ghats are part of the central highlands.

v) Coastal plains or Coastal regions: The eastern coastal plains are between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal, while the western coastal plains are between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea.

vi) Islands: The main islands of Indian Territory are the Lakshadweep Islands and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
