Electrophiles are electron-deficient organisms that can accept electron pairs from electron-rich organisms.

Examples of electrophiles are Carbocations and carbonyl compounds.

A nucleophile is an electron-rich organism that donates electron pairs to electron-poor organisms.

Examples of nucleophiles are Carbanions, water, ammonia, and cyanide.
