Threshing

What is Threshing?

Threshing is a separation method used to separate solid from other solid, which is commonly practised in agriculture. After harvesting the crops, the seeds need to be removed from the complete crop. Farmers use threshing for this purpose.

For example, on rice seeds, there is a thin brown cover around it. The white coloured rice grain lies inside this cover. This cover is called a husk or chaff. In other words, the husk is nothing but an outer shell or coating of a seed. Threshing helps in separating the seeds from the husks.

Earlier farmers used to manually take a few stalks in a bundle and beat them on to a hard surface with considerable force for threshing. Now there are machines which help to thresh.
