What is Amoeba?
Amoeba is a unicellular organism that has the ability to alter its shape.
How does the Digestive system of the amoeba work?
- Amoeba forms tiny finger-like projections called Pseudopodia to engulf the food particles.
- The pseudopodia join the around the food particles and trap it in a Food Vacuole.
Amoeba
- The food vacuole contains enzymes which break the food down into digestible
- These nutrients are directly absorbed by the body of the amoeba for growth and maintenance.
- The undigested waste is thrown out of the body through temporary rupture anywhere in the cell
- To prevent Cannibalism, amoeba secretes a chemical to keep other amoebas
