The Champaran movement was a farmer’s uprising movement that took place in Champaran district of Bihar during the British colonial period. The farmers were protesting against having to grow indigo without any payment for it.
In 1916, Gandhi travelled to Champaran to inspire the peasants to struggle against the oppressive indigo Planation system.
