What are the Different stages of digestion?

There are five important stages of digestion: ingestion, digestion, absorption, assimilation, and egestion.

● What is Ingestion?

Intake of food and chewing is known as ingestion. This happens in the Mouth.

● What is Digestion?

The process in which the enzymes present in various juices break the food into smaller and simpler substances is called digestion. This primarily happens in the Stomach and Small Intestine.

● What is Absorption?

The process through which the nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream via the Villi

present in the small intestine is known as absorption.

● What is Assimilation?

The process in which the nutrients absorbed are either stored or used to perform various functions like producing energy and repairing the body is called assimilation.

● What is Egestion?

The process of removal of the remaining undigested food is known as egestion.
