What is Poultry farming?

Poultry farming is the form of animal husbandry which raises domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese to produce meat or eggs for food which are an important source of proteins for humans.

Which are the types of fowls?

There are two types of fowls.

  • Layers: This type is reared for eggs. Layers are fed with calcium for eggshell
  • Broilers: This type is reared for Broilers are fed with vitamin-rich supplements in order to increase their growth rate. Heavier the chicken, higher will be its meat value.

Both these, however, must be kept far from diseases and deficiencies. Proper care must be taken with regard to their sanitation and hygiene. Fowls also need to be vaccinated against various diseases.

What are the advantages of cross-breeding of fowls?

The fowls that are bred in this manner have some special characteristics that prove beneficial to poultry farming.

  • The number and quality of chicks are increased when a crossbreed is
  • The sizes of the egg-laying birds are reduced which would mean less
