Plastics and concept of recycling

What is Plastic?

Plastic is an artificial polymer made using several molecules which are chemically treated. it is one of the most commonly used materials to make several daily use objects. Its light nature combined with its tensile strength gives plastic an advantage over many other articles.

Recycling

●     How to get rid of plastic waste?

Plastic is a non-biodegradable waste. So, it cannot be buried in landfills. And burning is also not an option as it will release harmful chemicals. Recycling plastic is an effective way of getting rid of it. Most plastic articles can be recycled, that is they are treated and newer articles are formed from them. Recycling reduces the accumulation of plastic waste.

●     How is paper recycled?

Besides plastic, paper can also be recycled. Waste papers, newspapers, paper strips and cuttings and all such wastes are used as inputs in the process of recycling paper. The output of this is the production of new papers.

Waste paper can also be used to make decorative and useful items. Waste paper can be converted into a soggy paste, which on drying gets hard enough to form a good product.

Concept of 3 R’s

The concept of 3 R’s that is Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, can help us lower the concern of wastes that generate a threat to the environment.

  • Reduce the use of articles that can generate waste. This is the first important thing to be
  • Reuse an article for some other purpose if it gets older or has no use
  • Recycle articles that cannot be reused or they are simply
