Rice is a Kharif type of crop. However, in India rice is a staple crop and it is grown under widely varying conditions of altitude and climate. Hence, the rice growing seasons is different in different parts of the country, that depends upon the temperature, rainfall, soil types, water availability and various other climatic conditions.
In the southern and eastern parts of the country, the temperature is favourable for rice cultivation through out the year. So, two to three crops of rice are grown annually in eastern and southern states.
In northern and western regions of the country, where rainfall is a bit high and winter temperature is a little low, only one crop of rice is grown between the months from May to November.
