What is the structure of villi?

  • Villi have Microvilli that further increase the surface
  • Each Villus has a Central Lacteal. A central lacteal is a projection of the lymphatic system.
  • The broken-down fat particles are absorbed through the central lacteal and then passed into the Lymphatic System.
  • Central lacteal is surrounded by a network of Capillaries.
  • The broken-down proteins and carbohydrates are absorbed directly in these capillaries
