How and where is garbage disposed?
The garbage in our homes is thrown in dustbins. But the waste materials from all the places are collected in a place called a Landfill.
A landfill is a huge ground or an open space where all the waste is dumped.
What are the different types of wastes?
Wastes are categorised into two types:
● Non-biodegradable wastes
Waste materials that cannot be degraded by biological agents are called Non- biodegradable wastes.
Certain wastes like plastics cannot be buried into the soil as they will remain the same for several years without getting decomposed. In other words, they cannot be decomposed by the decomposers in the soil. These wastes are either recycled or directly burned.
● Biodegradable wastes
Wastes that can be decomposed easily are called Biodegradable wastes.
There are certain articles like the peel of fruits, or spoilt food, or even garden waste for that matter, that can be converted into useful organic compounds. The decomposers in the soil use these wastes as their food and end up breaking down the large molecules in them, into smaller ones.
