What is the Internal structure of the heart?

The heart has many different internal structures which makes it a highly efficient organ, some of which are:

(i) Septum

The right side of the heart is separated from the left side with a muscular wall called the septum. Septum prevents the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.

  • Four chambers of the heart

There are four chambers of the heart: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, and left ventricle.

● Right atrium

The right atrium is the Receiving chamber for the deoxygenated blood.

● Right ventricle

The right ventricle is the Distribution chamber for deoxygenated blood.

● Left atrium

The left atrium is the Receiving chamber for the oxygenated blood.

● Left ventricle

The left ventricle is the Distribution chamber for oxygenated blood.
