Explain why a freely suspended magnet always points in the north – south direction.

Since earth behaves like a magnet with its north pole towards the geographical south and south pole along the geographical south .Thus when a magnet is suspended freely,its south pole is attracted by the north pole of earth and its north pole is attracted by south pole of earth.Therefore a freely suspended magnet always point in the north south direction
