Excretion in Plants

What are the Different excretory products in plants?

There are three main excretory products in plants: oxygen, metabolic waste, and secondary metabolites.

● Oxygen

Photosynthesis releases oxygen which is of no use to the plant.

● Metabolic waste products

The waste materials generated during the metabolism are called metabolic waste products.

● Secondary metabolites

Secondary metabolites are also generated as the product of metabolism and are not extremely important for the plants.

How are the excretory products excreted out from the plants?

  • The oxygen is released in the surrounding through the Stomata which is the site for gaseous
  • The metabolic waste products are collected in the Vacuoles which are also known as the dustbin of the plant
  • When all the vacuoles of the cells of the leaf are filled, the leaf falls This removes the waste products from the plant.

  • The secondary metabolites like resins and gums are stored in the Old Xylem. When the bark of the tree grows older, the outer layers start getting filled with these
  • Plants also excrete out waste products directly into the soil through the Roots.
