The Permanent Settlement introduced in 1793 was a land revenue settlement.
Revenues were collected by zamindars , native Indians were treated as landowners.
The main features of this revenue settlement were:-
Landlords or zamindars were the owners of the land .
Hereditary rights of succession were given of the lands under them .
The amount paid by the landlords was fixed.
The amount was fixed at 10/11th of the revenue for the government and 1/10th was for the zamindar.
Zamindars got the right to transfer or sell the property .
There was an pact that revenue would not be increased in the future.
In Permanent settlement , Britishers benefitted from the increased production from the land. The zamindars also served as intermediaries for political aspects of britishers .
