Define ‘Law of constant composition or definite Proportions’. Explain with a suitable example.

Law of definite proportions(law of constant composition): It was given by Joseph Proust(French Chemist).
This law states that in a compound the elements are always present in the same proportion by weight. It does not matter how the compound is obtained.
For example, CO2 obtained from any source will have carbon and oxygen in a 3:8 ratio.
Where, Mass of Carbon= 12

Mass of oxygen=16 (two oxygen =162=32)
Hence, the ratio is 12:32 i.e. 3:8.

Final Answer:
The compound can be obtained from many ways but the proportion of elements by weight will remain same in a compound.
