Solution:
(i) Mean
𝑀𝑒𝑎𝑛 = 𝑆𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠/𝑁𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠
= 42+7+17+17+7+24+17+29/8 = 160/8 = 20
∴ The mean is 20.
(ii) Median
The ascending order of the set of numbers is as follows: 7, 7, 17, 17, 17, 24, 29, 42
Number of values = 8
As the number of values is even,
𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑎𝑛 = 𝑆𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑤𝑜 𝑚𝑖𝑑𝑑𝑙𝑒 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑠/2
= 17+17/2 = 34/2 = 17
∴ The median is 17.
(iii) Mode
17 occurs thrice in the given set of data which is the most occurrence by any number.
∴ The mode is 17.
