Asexual reproduction

What is Asexual reproduction?

The process of reproduction in which only one cell is involved is called asexual reproduction. Binary fission, budding, and fragmentation are types of asexual reproduction.

What is Binary fission?

The term binary comes from ‘bi’ which means ‘two’ and ‘fission’ which means ‘dividing’. In this

type of asexual reproduction, each cell divides to form two new cells.

● Binary fission in Amoeba

  • In Amoeba the chromosomes replicate and form two
  • After this, each set is pushed to the opposite ends. The cell also grows and expands.
  • The plasma membrane of the cell develops a constriction and begins to grow inwards. This process is called Cytokinesis.
  • Cytokinesis completes and divides the cell into two new cells called daughter cells

What is Budding?

Budding is a type of asexual reproduction in which a bud grows on the parent’s body. The bud can separate from the parent’s body and develop into a new organism.

● Budding in Hydra

  • On the body of Hydra, a small outgrowth is formed due to repeated cell

This is called a bud.

  • Bud takes its nutrition from the parent hydra to grow and
  • The bud will grow and form an elongated body and
  • Then it will pinch off from the parent hydra and grow as an
