What are Alleles?
- Chromosomes are homologous if they have the same set of
- In a chromosome pair, one pair of genes, say B and b, define the eye
- So, B and b form the same set of genes, but they are not the same
- Since both chromosomes have genes for the same character on the same locus, they can be called Homologous chromosomes.
Alleles
- B and b are not the same genes because they are two different
- Two or more alternative forms of genes which are located at the same place on the chromosome are called Alleles.
- They are forms of genes that give different
For example, alleles for black eye colour, for brown eye colour, for blue eye colour, etc.
Alleles and Genes
- In the trait, eye colour, the genes for eye colour are not the same on each
- B represents the gene for black eye colour, while b represents the trait of brown eye colour.
- So, the character is eye colour, and the two traits are black and brown coloured
- These two traits are given by two genes which is the gene for black eye colour and gene for brown eye colour. These individual genes are
- They are the variations of genes which help to gain a particular
