The chemical equation for chlor-alkali process can be written as follows:
NaCl + H2O→NaOH + Cl2 + H2
Upon balancing it by simply ensuring equal number of atoms of each element on either sides, equation obtained is :2NaCl + 2H2O →2NaOH + Cl2 + H2
Hence, post balancing,balanced chemical equation of chlor-alkali process or brine electrolysis is as given below:
2NaCl + 2H2O →2NaOH + Cl2 + H2
