A mentor, a friend, a guide, a role model is synonymous with one word that is Teacher.To observe the natal day of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and the contribution of all the teachers, Teacher’s day is celebrated in India on the 5th of September every year. The day is celebrated across the country with fervour and joy with the students engaged in planning different activities and celebrations for their beloved teachers.

Teachers are given titles and the students pour their love for the teachers in the form of cultural extravaganza. Some even try to turn into a razzmatazz. But it is indeed a thing to ponder why the birthday of Dr. S Radhakrishnan is celebrated as Teacher’s Day ?

There is an amazing incident behind this. When Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was serving as the second president of India , his friends and students wanted to celebrate his birthday but he had a secret wish that he would be overjoyed if his birthday is observed as “ Teacher’s Day “. Since then every year his birthday is celebrated as Teacher’s Day across the nation.Apart from the Teacher’s Day being celebrated in India , a World Teacher’s Day is also celebrated on the 5th of October every year globally. It was established in 1994. The day marks the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO recommendation concerning the status of the teachers.
