Why was the two-kingdom classification used for a long time, found inadequate?

This system did not distinguish between eukaryotes and prokaryotes, unicellular and multicellular organisms, photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic plants.

Secondly a large no of organisms could not find a place in this system.
