Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. It is the most populous city in Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram is also home to research centres such as the Indian Space Research Organisation's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, the Indian Institute of Space and Science and Technology, and the National Centre for Earth Science Studies, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology. India's largest city in the deep south is strategically prominent. It hosts the Southern Air Command headquarters of the Indian Air Force and the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station. The major tourist centre is known for the Padmanabhaswamy Temple and the beaches of Kovalam and Varkala. The city has a tropical savanna climate and a tropical monsoon climate.

Due to its green landscapes and the presence of many public parks, Thiruvananthapuram is also known. There are two most popular sports in Thiruvananthapuram: cricket and football. Also, the first international cricket match in Kerala at the University Stadium in 1984 was hosted by Thiruvananthapuram.
