Chandigarh is the joint capital for both Haryana and Punjab. The state of Haryana borders Chandigarh to the east, Punjab to the north, the west and the south. The predominant religion in the Chandigarh is Hinduism, followed by Sikhism, the second most popular religion in the city. Chandigarh has the most significant number of vehicles per capita in India. The name of Chandigarh is derived from the temple of "Chandi Mandir" in the vicinity of the site selected for the city. The deity 'Chandi', the goddess of power and a fort of 'Garh' laying beyond the temple gave the city its name "Chandigarh-The City Beautiful".
