Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, and it has always been a multicultural city. Courtly manners, beautiful gardens, poetry, music, and fine cuisine patronized by the Persian-loving Shia Nawabs of the city are well known amongst Indians and students of South Asian culture and history. It is also known as the Golden City of the East, Shiraz-i-Hind and The Constantinople of India. Lucknow was one of the hotspots of rebellious activities during the Rebellion of 1857, the first war of freedom from British Rule in India.
The fire of the uprising spread from Lucknow to Kanpur and then to Bengal. The city is the birthplace of a few great Indian musicians: Naushad, Talat Mahmood and Anup Jalota. Lucknow is India’s first ‘CCTV City’.This city is known as ‘Nawabo Ki Nagri‘ and ‘Laxmanpuri. Lucknow is known worldwide for its historical buildings, tourism, culture, and food. Lucknow is unusually known for its taste. Lucknow has many historical buildings, among which the most famous are – Bada Imambada, Rumi Darwaza, Labyrinth, Chota Imambara, Jama Masjid, La Martiniere, Tiled Mosque, etc.
Lucknow was known as the ‘City of Gold‘ and ‘Shiraz e Hind. Lucknow railway station is where Mahatma Gandhi first met Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in December 1916. Janeshwar Park in Lucknow is the largest park in Asia. The 40-acre lake Gondola boat ride in this park attracts tourists. City Montessori School Lucknow has the highest number of students in the world. Lucknow Zoo is the oldest zoo in India. It was established in 1921.
