Historically, the home of the emperor was considered the capital of japan. From 794 to 1868, the Emperor of Japan lived in Kyoto. After 1868, the seat of the Japanese government and the house of the Emperor's home was shifted to Tokyo. After World War II, the newly made Japanese constitution transferred the state's sovereign right from the Emperor to the people. and Diet is established in Tokyo. So the capital of Japan is Tokyo. It is located on the head of the bay of Tokyo near the Pacific coast of Honshu island of japan. It is the focus of the Big metropolitan area often called Greater Tokyo which is the largest urban and industrial agglomeration in Japan.
