Question
Pentagon
Pentagon is a geometrical figure that has five sides and five angles. The word Pentagon is made up of two words - Penta and gonia. Penta means five and gonia means angles.
Properties of pentagon
- Pentagon is a flat , two - dimensional shape.
- it consists of 5 basic parts : sides, vertices, diagonal, interior angles and exterior angles.
- All pentagons must have the same straight sides but the sides are not of the same length.
- The sum of all interior angles of a polygon is 540 degrees.
- All interior angles of the pentagon are equal, measuring 108 degrees each.
- All exterior angles of a pentagon are equal, measuring 72 degrees each.
Types of pentagon
On the basis of sides, angles and vertices , pentagon is of following types-
- Regular pentagon- when all the five sides are of equal length and all angles are of equal measurements in a Pentagon then it is said to be regular pentagon.
- Irregular pentagon- if the Pentagon doesn't have equal side length and angle measure then it is called irregular pentagon.
- Convex pentagon- if all the vertices of a pentagon are pointing outwards, then it is called convex pentagon.
- Concave pentagon - if a pentagon has at least one vertices pointing inside, then it is called concave pentagon.
Examples of pentagon
- The Pentagon building in Washington D.C
- The home plate of a baseball field
- Sections of a soccer ball.
