Question
Hypermetropia
Hypermetropia is also known as hyperopia or far-sightedness. Hypermetropia is that condition of the eyes where in the image of a nearby object is formed behind the retina. Here, the light is focused behind the retina and not on the retina.
The person suffering from hypermetropia has difficulty in focusing on nearby objects, but he/she can clearly see distant objects. Hypermetropia is treatable in early stages without any defect in the eye with the help of a process called as accommodation.
structural defects in the retina is the main cause of hypermetropia.
There are many Structural defects include:
- Such as small-sized eye-ball and non-circular lenses.Defective blood vessels in the retina is also one of the factor that caused hypermetropia. There are many risk factors associated with hypermetropia. Some of them are
- Cancer around the eye and Small eye syndrome also known as microphthalmia
Symptoms of hypermetropia
This problem does not show any major symptoms initially but later leads to a mild aversion to light, blurry vision and tiredness in eyes and headache.
Types of Hypermetropia
- Simple hyperopia which is caused due to biological diversity.
- Pathological hyperopia which is caused by abnormal development of the eye, disease, or trauma.
- Functional hyperopia which is caused by paralysis that interferes with the eye’s ability to accommodate.
The treatment of hypermetropia includes corrective Usage of proper lenses and spectacles as prescribed by the ophthalmologist.High degree hypermetropia is corrected using intraocular lens implantation and surgery like LASIK (Laser-Assisted In situ Keratomileusis) Laser eye surgery, PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy) and LASEK (Laser Subepithelial Keratomileusis).
