Question

Sum of all the genetic information of an organism is called genome. The genome is stored with the long molecule of DNA called chromosome. Each DNA has some smaller section containing the genes which codes for RNA and in turn for protein in all living organisms. In case of prokaryotic organisms, the genome remains suspended within the cytoplasm and this particular region of cytoplasm is called Nucleoid. Whereas in case of eukaryotes this genome is found in inside a membrane bound organelle called Nucleus. Under the project named as human genome project, 23 pairs of human chromosome were sequenced completely.

Q. What is difference between gene and genome?

Ans. Genes are part of genome.Sum of all the genetic information of an organism is called genome. Whereas in case of eukaryotes this genome is found inside a membrane bound organelle called Nucleus. Under the project named as human genome project, 23 pairs of human chromosomes were sequenced completely.

Whereas genes encodes for protein and not complete genetic information in itself.
